i'd have to say either Rage Against The Machine or the Pogues...and that was many years ago for both of them although Goldblade never disappoint...

loads for different reasons......

believe it or not the boomtown rats at the empire sunderland/1978....one of first gigs..support band booed/bottled off...the empire wrecked ..all bands barred for 10 yrs plus following...when they were good as well.....

ramones/boys newcastle city hall 1 2 3 4 its alive all right

many /all jam gigs at newcastle city hall.remember watchin soundchecks as they used to open doors and im the one with white jacket/spiky hair by mixing desk on check it out special on tv/dvd ...1980/sound effects tour i think...
and final one whitley bay...

stiff little fingers/the wall.......newcastle city hall...love the wall remember security/bouncers being flattened as crowd surged....its your last chance to dance...

early cure gigs....newcastle..

devo newcastle city hall after bunking off school to see em first in virgin record store......almost struck by lightning walking home....scary,,,must have been all those zips n studs...

damned, too many to mention but tenth anniversary tea party in finsbury park 1986 ,2 days various ex-damneds and new model army, pete shelley etc...

new model army, marquee london 1984,after hearing em on john peel...absolutely blown away....then at sunderland mayfair few weeks later,

redskins at the bunker sunderland..1984/miners strike

stranglers at dunelm ballroom late 70s

total chaos, gatesheads finest at murray house community centre somewhere in newcastle circa there are no russians in afghanistan time 1981....what punk was all about then...

the undertones at the city hall newcastle, first time also,,oh those happy nights on the last bus home to hetton which didnt go all the way to hetton....4 mile walk in the rain regularly made .

numerous others....buzzcocks/penetration/sneaking into the mayfair to watch theatre of hate soundcheck....instead of goin to school..killing joke =blown away etc.etc.etc.
some more recently as well......sex pistols in manchester/slaughter and the dogs......

the grit first on the bill at the astoria london 2004? 12.45 ish to 20 or so people and they were incredible....never looked back...

lookin forward to seein the cravats in blackpool...

part 2 to follow if i get time

Gotta be The Clash - second neet at the city hall on the casbah tour. the first neet wasn't bad either. not only was the band fuckn brilliant, i went backstage fora beer with paul simenon and johnny green, got me haircut off cosmo fuckn vinyl, then walked home to seaham. happy days.
mind you - i quite enjoyed the busking tour a few years later (not the proper clash i know) - it's not every day joe strummer walks into the bar where yer working and says "do you mind if we get up and do a few songs?" do i fuckn mind?

welcome chops ,
nice one, thats a fine story about the haircut my friend...
what bar were you workin in when strummer walked in.Wish i had been in sunderland the night they came up,would have been gettin drunk locally on that night, remember hearing through the grapevine they played the salem i think....
had a ticket for the clash on the tour for combat rock i think, the one where strummer went awol and sold it before they were re-sheduled,big regret......
also regret goin to see spear of destiny in sunderland the night the mescaleros played newcastle uni in 2002 ,as friend had bought tickets,,,,oh well we can catch them next time they tou were my exact words......didnt know he d be dead in a few weeks.....sad as..........saw them in manchester summer that year ,amazing how the hairs on the back of the neck stood up when hearing white man in hammersmith palais and that wonderful gruff voice singin it,almost moves a man to tears, such a powerful song/with powerful memories...

the beginning of arms aloft on streetcore has the same effect every time, his voice almost from beyond the grave of course released well after his death.............
SOMETIMES THE SNOW .......... gulp!
